Grandchildren are considered the rewards you get for not killing your kids, that is actually an old saying. Most of us who have survived the joy and agony of raising our kids understands what this humor is saying. Since we are already grandparents, it is now time for us to enjoy the fun of having grandchildren and give the agony part to their parents. This is well and good but there are some mistakes that grandparents need to avoid.
First of all and likewise the most important among these mistakes is to forget your role in the relationship. You need to remember that you are not the parent of your grandchildren. You should not demand first for their time since this a privilege that is reserved for their real parents. Although it is difficult to accept for grandparents who loved their grandchildren so much, at least you are second to their priorities. Accept it and don’t insist or demand for much time which will make it even uncomfortable for them.
